TWO THELEN PARTNERS JOINING ORRICK IN N.Y. NEW YORK Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has recruited two New York partners from Thelen Reid & Priest, including the former chair of the latter firm’s corporate practice. Former Thelen business and finance department chair Burton Haimes, who also headed the firm’s European practice, will join Orrick’s New York office along with George Wang, another former Thelen partner. Both men’s practices focus heavily on the representation of French companies expanding or investing in the U.S. market. Haimes said last week he was attracted to Orrick because of the San Francisco-based firm’s French connections. Orrick acquired the Paris firm Rambaud Martel at the beginning of the year, bringing its presence in the French capital to 75 lawyers, among the largest of any American firm. Thelen has seen a string of departures from its New York office over the past year, which many have attributed to friction between the firm’s East Coast and West Coast arms. In a separate move, Orrick also added a New York corporate partner from Kilpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham. King Milling specializes in corporate transactions in the life sciences industry. Peter Bicks, the head of Orrick’s New York office, said the firm has made expanding its New York corporate practice a key goal for the year. New York Law Journal
