SAN FRANCISCO Jonathan Deason has joined Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass as an associate in the estate planning and tax practice. Deason, who comes to the firm from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, graduated from Hastings College of the Law last year. Partner Jay Gould and associate Michael Wu have joined Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in the corporate and securities practice. They both come to the firm from White & Case. Gould is a 1983 graduate of Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, while Wu graduated from University of Minnesota Law School in 2001. Bassi Martini Edlin & Blum has elevated Jeremy Huie to partner. Huie, who has been with the firm since 1997, focuses his practice on complex litigation, toxic tort and environmental law, and asbestos defense. He is a 1997 graduate of Hastings College of the Law. Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld partner Stephen Mansfield has been elected to the firm’s management committee. Mansfield, who has been with the firm since 1998, focuses his practice on complex fraud litigation, class action defense, corporate and government investigations, and white-collar criminal defense. He graduated from University of Maine School of Law in 1982. Natalie Pierce has rejoined Littler Mendelson as a partner specializing in employment and labor law. Pierce, who was formerly with Carroll, Burdick & McDonough, is a 1997 graduate of Columbia Law School. David Simonton has joined Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal as of counsel. Simonton, who was previously with Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold, focuses his practice on representation of first- and third-party carriers in insurance coverage disputes. He graduated from UCLA School of Law in 1998. EAST BAY Patricia Kim has been named president of the Korean American Bar Association of California for 2006-07. Kim, who is an associate at Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean, focuses on real estate transactional law. She received her J.D. from University of Southern California Law School in 2001. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton has given Andrew Guilford the Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award. Guilford is a business trial practice group partner in the Orange County office. He plans to leave the firm to become a federal district judge for the Central District of California in Santa Ana. Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal has elevated Christopher Prince to partner. Prince, who has been with the firm since 2002, specializes in fraud investigation, insolvency, debtor-creditor relations and bankruptcy. He graduated from UCLA School of Law in 1995.
