ALSTON & BIRD Paul Architzel, 53, the former chief regulatory counsel to Eurex US, has joined Alston & Bird as counsel in the firm’s financial services and products group. Previously, Architzel advised Eurex, the world’s largest derivatives exchange, on the formation of its U.S. subsidiary and managed its application for designation as a U.S. contract market. He earned his J.D. from George Washington University Law School. Joseph Yesutis has joined the firm as of counsel, also in the financial services and products group. Yesutis, 39, previously worked as of counsel in Latham & Watkins’ finance department, where he focused on regulatory compliance, retail and wholesale payment systems, e-commerce, and a broad range of retail products and services offered by financial institutions. He received his J.D. from Tulane University Law School.
BAKER BOTTS Kenneth Mead, 58, formerly inspector general of the Department of Transportation, has accepted a position at Baker Botts as special counsel. At the Transportation Department he was a member of the President’s Council on Integrity and Efficiency. Mead will focus on homeland security and transportation issues at the firm. He earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
COLLIER SHANNON SCOTT There are two new partners at Collier Shannon Scott. Burney Huber, former senior trial attorney with the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, has joined the firm’s antitrust practice group as of counsel. Huber, 57, advises clients on the antitrust enforcement agency review process. At the DOJ she focused on mergers and civil antitrust matters. She received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. John Delacourt, 34, former chief antitrust counsel at the Federal Trade Commission’s Office of Policy Planning, has come aboard as of counsel in the antitrust practice group. Delacourt, who will focus on antitrust, intellectual property, and commercial litigation, began his career at the FTC as an attorney adviser. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
FORD & HARRISON Kevin Kraham, 35, was named partner at Ford & Harrison. He represents management in labor and employment issues, including labor arbitrations and collective bargaining for air carriers under the Railway Labor Act, equal employment opportunity counseling, and employment litigation. He earned his J.D. from American University Washington College of Law.
JORDEN BURT W. Glenn Merten was elevated to partner at Jorden Burt. He focuses on class actions, complex litigation, administrative proceedings, and alternate dispute resolution, representing insurance companies, financial entities, educational institutions, and other service organizations. Merten, 33, earned his J.D. from George Washington University Law School.
PERKINS COIE Michael Gallagher, 42, former assistant secretary of commerce and an adviser to President George H.W. Bush on telecommunications policy, has joined Perkins Coie as a partner. Gallagher will chair the firm’s communications and government relations group. He began his legal career in 1989 as an associate in the firm’s Seattle office before coming to Washington, D.C., to serve as an administrative assistant to then-Rep. Rick White (R-Wash.). He received his J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law.
SHEPPARD, MULLIN, RICHTER & HAMPTON Lucantonio Salvi, 37, has joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton as a partner. Most recently with Latham & Watkins, he has come aboard the firm’s corporate practice. Focusing on corporate law, corporate finance, securities law, and mergers and acquisitions, Salvi represents companies, investment banks, and private equity firms. He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Andre Barlow has been promoted to partner in the firm’s antitrust and trade regulation practice. Barlow has experience in antitrust enforcement matters before the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and state enforcement agencies, as well as in complex commercial litigation involving federal and state antitrust laws. Barlow, 34, was formerly a trial attorney with the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
SPRIGGS & HOLLINGSWORTH Heather Pigman, 33, has made partner at Spriggs & Hollingsworth. Pigman’s practice focuses on toxic tort and pharmaceutical products liability defense. She has experience in appellate and class certification litigation in complex, multidefendant product liability cases. She has defended pharmaceutical cases as well as cases involving medical devices and automobiles. Pigman received her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law. — Nathan Carlile
