In February, President George Bush announced plans to nominate Benedict Cohen to be GC of the U.S. Department of the Army. At press time Cohen was senior adviser to the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission . . . Steven Huston took the top law job at Pregis Corporation, a recent spin-off from Pactiv Corporation. He was previously GC of Dayton Superior Corporation . . . February brought good news for William Von Hoene, Jr. He was named GC at Exelon. He’d been the acting general counsel for the past year . . . The National Automobile Dealers Association chose Andrew Koblenz to be its new GC. He had been NADA’s vice president of industry affairs. Koblenz replaces Bill Newman , who retired after 22 years with NADA . . . Andrew Gross joined Sunstone Hotel Investors, Inc., as its senior vice president and general counsel . . . Christopher Tessitore was promoted to GC of Commercial Net Lease Realty, Inc. . . . Web hosting provider Rackspace Managed Hosting picked Alan Schoenbaum as its legal chief . . . In January, Duke University named Pamela Bernard as its new GC. Currently the top lawyer at the University of Florida, she’ll start work at Duke in July . . . James Brunner got a load of new responsibility. The GC for Consumers Energy since 2004, he was also made GC for the Michigan utility’s parent company, CMS Energy, in January. S. Kinnie Smith, Jr. , who had been CMS Energy’s general counsel, became chief legal officer and vice-chairman . . . Biogen Idec picked Susan Alexander as its new executive vice president and GC . . . Bank of America chose William Fox to be its senior compliance executive for financial crimes in the bank’s compliance risk management division. He came to the job from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he was director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network . . . Redback Networks Inc., a broadband networking systems provider, signed Beth Frensilli as its general counsel . . . Eryk Spytek is the new GC at SIRVA, Inc. . . . Amsterdam-based Wolters Kluwer appointed Deidra Gold as executive vice president and GC for North America . . . Patrick Zeller took over as legal chief at Guidance Software. Prior to joining Guidance, Zeller was a litigator in the Chicago office of Seyfarth Shaw . . . Analog Devices, Inc., hired its first GC and secretary: Margaret Seif. She joined the company from RSA Security Inc., where she was GC . . . Advance Nanotech, Inc., chose Lowell Dashefsky to be its top lawyer . . . The new GC at GameStop Corporation is Daniel Kaufman. He had been the top lawyer at Electronics Boutique Holdings Corporation, which was acquired by GameStop in October . . . Thomas Forsyth took over as legal chief at OneBeacon Insurance Group. It’s a subsidiary of White Mountains Insurance Group, Ltd. . . . The ACE Group of Companies appointed David Cain as general counsel for its Asia Pacific, Far East, and Latin America regions . . . European securities settlement provider Euroclear chose Ambrose Murphy as its group general counsel following the departure of Kristen Geyer at the end of 2005.
