The ink has yet to dry on law firms’ revenue figures for 2005, but Howrey already has a case of the New Year’s blues with the departure of two partners to Kaye Scholer last week. Alan Fisch and Kelly Clement — who in 2003 won a $62.3 million verdict against Microsoft Corp. for a subsidiary of SPX Corp., Imagexpo — are taking their approximately $7 million book of business, which includes clients Costco Wholesale Corp., Juniper Networks, and SPX, to their new firm. “Kaye Scholer had the opportunity for leadership and fewer conflict issues,” says Fisch, who will head up the firm’s IP litigation in D.C. They plan to bring in at least half a dozen associates, including an additional contingent from Howrey. The moves are the latest in a string of top-partner defections over the past year from Howrey, which altogether have taken away an estimated $25 million in revenue. For now, at least, the firm says it is unfazed. “It’s just the nature of the business,” says Chris Till, firm spokesperson. “We have good people coming and good people leaving.”
