BAR ASSOCIATION OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA Andrew Hurst, a partner with Reed Smith, received the Bar Association of the District of Columbia Young Lawyer of the Year award. Nominees must be under the age of 40. Hurst, a member of Reed Smith’s regulatory litigation practice, focuses on civil and criminal fraud and abuse litigation and counseling to local businesses. He received the award for his service to the BADC and its charitable activities and, in addition, for his work with small and emerging businesses. The BADC is a voluntary bar association composed of members of the D.C. Bar, who joined together to promote public-interest programs.
COMMUNITY HEALTH CHARITIES Community Health Charities of the National Capital Area named Lori Golino, Denise Keyes, and Jane Hyatt Thorpe to its board of directors. Golino is vice president of human resources at Social & Scientific Systems, where she oversees the company’s employee relations and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission compliance, benefits and compensation programs, and training and professional development. Keyes is a senior vice president at Fleishman-Hillard, where she manages marketing communications for clients’ philanthropic programs. Thorpe is the associate vice president of payment and policy at the Advanced Medical Technology Association. She is responsible for policy development and analysis for Medicare and private payor reimbursement. CHC-NCA was established in 1985 and has more than 70 member charities. In 2004, the federation raised more than $5 million for its health charities through local employee giving programs.
GREATER WASHINGTON BOARD OF TRADE Samuel Schreiber, Wachovia Corp.’s regional president for Greater Washington, and Barbara Krumsiek, president and chief executive officer of The Calvert Group, will lead the Greater Washington Board of Trade in 2006 as chair and chair-elect. The Board of Trade aspires to be a regional leader on issues ranging from emergency preparedness, transportation, and regional development to higher education and health care.
HEBREW HOME Alan Freeman, a partner in Blank Rome’s commercial litigation and maritime practices, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. Freeman also will serve on the boards of directors for Ring House and Landow House, two of the organization’s assisted- and independent-living homes for the elderly. The Hebrew Home is a local nonprofit organization providing independent and assisted living, rehabilitation, long-term care, and specialized Alzheimer’s care for the elderly. At Blank Rome, Freeman concentrates his practice on civil and commercial litigation in federal and state courts. — Nathan Carlile
