PERKINS COIE Michelle Fenty, 36, former managing director and associate general counsel for the commercial services industry at BearingPoint, has joined Perkins Coie as counsel in the firm’s licensing and technology group. She received her J.D. from Howard University School of Law.
REED SMITH Robert Helland, 38, has joined Reed Smith as a government relations adviser. Helland comes to Reed Smith after serving as a legislative assistant to then-Sen. Jon Corzine (D-N.J.), now governor-elect of New Jersey. Prior to his work on Capitol Hill, Helland was a compliance attorney for Prudential Insurance Company of America. He received his J.D. from Widener University School of Law.
SANDLER, REIFF & YOUNG Stephen Hershkowitz has joined Sandler, Reiff & Young as of counsel. For the past decade he has served as the top district court litigator for the Federal Election Commission. As the FEC’s assistant general counsel, Hershkowitz, 60, litigated the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 and represented the FEC in many other cases involving federal campaign finance law. At Sandler, Reiff, he represents political parties, party committees, campaigns, political action committees, donors, and nonprofit organizations. Hershkowitz earned his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.
SKADDEN, ARPS, SLATE, MEAGHER & FLOM Susan Jacobsen, 35, has joined the D.C. office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom as the business development and public relations director. She had previously worked as the business development director for Corporate Legal Times and, prior to that, as the director of marketing for Crowell & Moring.
STERNE, KESSLER, GOLDSTEIN & FOX Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox has added two associates to its mechanical group. John Haran, 29, will focus on adhesive bonding. He earned his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School. Mark Rygiel, 32, will concentrate on vehicle systems, medical devices, and related mechanical technologies. He also received his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.
VORYS, SATER, SEYMOUR AND PEASE Claire Shamblin has been hired as an associate by the Alexandria, Va., office of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease. Before joining the firm, Shamblin, 31, was a law clerk for Fairfax County Circuit Judge Robert Wooldridge Jr. She received her J.D. from George Mason University School of Law.
WILLKIE FARR & GALLAGHER Bernard Nigro Jr., 45, formerly the Federal Trade Commission’s deputy director of the Bureau of Competition, has joined Willkie Farr & Gallagher as partner. Nigro will specialize in complex civil and criminal antitrust matters. Having served as deputy director since July 2003, Nigro supervised the bureau’s merger and nonmerger enforcement divisions.
