Crowell & Moring has beefed up its white-collar defense group by poaching Philip Inglima from Baach Robinson & Lewis. Inglima formerly served on the independent counsel team that investigated former Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt. Among his current clients is Mark Koenig, Enron Corp.’s former chief of investor relations, who pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting securities fraud and is expected to testify for the prosecution at the upcoming trials of ex-Enron execs Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling. Inglima also represents Reggie Howard, a Reliant Energy Services Inc. executive charged with manipulating California’s electricity market. “I was looking for broader support,” Inglima says of his decision to leave 35-lawyer Baach Robinson for 280-lawyer Crowell. Also joining Crowell are counsels Ashley Bailey and Adrian Mebane. Inglima’s move from a boutique to a big firm comes after his former colleague Preston Burton left tax boutique Caplin & Drysdale for the D.C. office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. Both Burton and Inglima got their start with white-collar legend Plato Cacheris.
