There were toasts and plenty of clerk-shuffling last week at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit as colleagues bid goodbye to newly minted Chief Justice John Roberts Jr.
An intimate gathering of judges met with Roberts at the E. Barrett Prettyman Courthouse on Friday. Judge A. Raymond Randolph confirmed that it was indeed a toast, not a roast. But at least two judges, David Tatel and David Sentelle, were absent.
