There were toasts and plenty of clerk-shuffling last week at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit as colleagues bid goodbye to newly minted Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. An intimate gathering of judges met with Roberts at the E. Barrett Prettyman Courthouse on Friday. Judge A. Raymond Randolph confirmed that it was indeed a toast, not a roast. But at least two judges, David Tatel and David Sentelle, were absent. Looking ahead, two of Roberts’ D.C. Circuit clerks will leave with him for the high court, sources confirm. They are Kosta Stojilkovic and Daniel Kearney. Erin Morrow will be moving to Charlottesville, Va., to clerk for Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. Anton Metlitsky will stick around the D.C. courthouse, clerking for Judge Merrick Garland starting next fall. George Hicks, one of Roberts’ recent clerks (and a “Jeopardy!” winner he took home $23,000), has also stayed close, clerking for Judge Janice Rogers Brown.
