BAKER, DONELSON, BEARMAN, CALDWELL & BERKOWITZ Phillip Zane, 43, has joined Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz as of counsel in the government investigations and antitrust group. Most recently, he was a solo practitioner in Washington. He earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law.
BRADLEY ARANT ROSE & WHITE Bradley Arant Rose & White has picked up five partners and three associates from Spriggs & Hollingsworth and one associate from Hinckley, Allen & Snyder in Boston. All were lateral hires. The following six attorneys have joined the construction & procurement practice: Douglas Patin, 51, a partner who graduated from George Washington University Law School; Robert Symon, 39, a partner who graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law; Michael Koplan, 39, a partner who graduated from American University Washington College of Law; Katherine Ruff, 33, an associate from Hinckley, Allen & Snyder in Boston who graduated from American University Washington College of Law; Christyne Brennan, 28, an associate who graduated from Georgetown University Law Center; and Eric Frechtel, 34, an associate who graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law. The following two attorneys have joined the white-collar criminal defense practice: Stephen Spivack, 59, a partner who graduated from George Washington University Law School, and Daniel Golden, 30, an associate who graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. In addition, Edward Beder, Jr., 57, has joined the litigation practice as a partner focusing on antitrust and insurance matters. He received his law degree from Stanford Law School.
JENNER & BLOCK Larry Ellsworth, 58, has joined Jenner & Block as a partner in the securities litigation practice. He was most recently assistant chief litigation counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Trial Unit. He received a J.D. from Harvard Law School and an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center.
KING & SPALDING George Crawford, 50, has joined the D.C. office of King & Spalding as a senior government relations adviser in the public policy and government advocacy practice group. He was the chief of staff for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
MCGUIREWOODS Joanna Frizzell has joined the Tysons Corner, Va., office of McGuireWoods as an associate in the real estate and environmental department, focusing on land use. Previously an assistant city attorney for the City of Alexandria, Frizzell, 31, graduated from George Mason University School of Law.
NUCLEAR ENERGY INSTITUTE Two attorneys have assumed new positions at, and one has joined, the Nuclear Energy Institute. Michael Bauser, 61, is now deputy general counsel. He had been associate general counsel at the institute. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Anne Cottingham has come aboard as assistant general counsel. She was a senior attorney at Winston & Strawn, where her practice focused on nuclear-related regulatory issues and litigation. Cottingham, 53, received her J.D. from Duke University School of Law. Ellen Ginsberg, 47, is now vice president, secretary, and general counsel; she had been deputy general counsel at the institute. She received her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law.
PALEY, ROTHMAN, GOLDSTEIN, ROSENBERG, EIG & COOPER Two attorneys at Paley, Rothman, Goldstein, Rosenberg, Eig & Cooper have been named partners in the litigation and family law practice groups. Both partners had been associates at the firm. Aubrey Moss, 33, focuses on family and domestic relations law and litigation, including divorce, property, support, and child custody matters. She received her J.D. from Cornell Law School. Howard Soypher, 34, focuses on civil litigation matters, including family law, commercial and business disputes, and estate litigation. He received his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
PATTON BOGGS Terrance Bessey, 48, has joined the D.C. office of Patton Boggs as a partner in the corporate finance practice. He specializes in mergers and acquisitions and private equity matters. Most recently a partner at Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman, Bessey, 48, received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
SPRIGGS & HOLLINGSWORTH Jean Cunningham has been elected to partnership at Spriggs & Hollingsworth. Her practice focuses on pharmaceutical, other products liability, and toxic tort defense litigation. Cunningham, 33, who had been an associate at the firm, received her J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.
THOMPSON HINE Michelle Cohen has joined Thompson Hine as a partner in the telecommunications practice. Her practice focuses on advising clients on communications, consumer protection, and privacy-related matters. Cohen, 37, was an of counsel at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker. She received her J.D. from Emory University School of Law.
VAN NESS FELDMAN L. Douglas Carter, 56, has joined Van Ness Feldman as a senior energy adviser. Previously the director of the Office of Planning & Environmental Analysis in the Office of Fossil Energy at the Department of Energy, Carter will provide regulatory and legislative advice to clients.
WOMBLE CARLYLE SANDRIDGE & RICE Kenneth Misken, 35, has joined the D.C. office of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice as an associate in the bankruptcy and creditors’ rights practice group. He came from Mitchell Williams Selig Gates Woodyard in Little Rock, Ark., where he was an associate. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H.
