AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASS’N Arthur House, a partner at Paley, Rothman, Goldstein, Rosenberg, Eig & Cooper, was appointed to the Roster of Neutrals of the American Arbitration Association, which provides alternative dispute resolution services. Neutrals hear and resolve cases before the association. In order to be nominated, they must have received academic or professional honors indicating they are leaders in their field. Neutrals also must have at least 10 years of senior-level business experience or legal practice and training and experience in dispute resolution. AMERICAN COLLEGE OF TRIAL LAWYERS Roy Niedermayer, also a partner at Paley, Rothman, Goldstein, Rosenberg, Eig & Cooper, has been nominated to the American College of Trial Lawyers. Fellowship is by invitation only to lawyers with at least 15 years’ trial experience. The organization currently has 5,400 members throughout the United States and Canada. INTER-AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION Raul Herrera, a partner at Winston & Strawn, has received the International Lawyer of the Year Award for 2004 from the Inter-American Bar Association, which seeks to promote the rule of law and protect democratic institutions in the Americas. Herrera is the head of Winston & Strawn’s Latin American practice group. NATIONAL LEGAL AID & DEFENDER ASSOCIATION Jeffrey Kindler, vice chairman and general counsel of Pfizer Inc., has received the 2005 Exemplar Award from the National Legal Aid & Defender Association. The award recognizes Kindler, a former partner at D.C.’s Williams & Connolly, for his community service and pro bono work. PILLSBURY WINTHROP SHAW PITTMAN Several D.C.-area attorneys were appointed to leadership positions at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. William Atkins and Lawrence Gotts of the McLean, Va., office were named chairmen of the intellectual property practice. Maureen Dwyer, who specializes in real estate, was named managing partner of the D.C. office. John O’Neill of the D.C. office was appointed head of the firm’s regulatory practice. TRIAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON, D.C. Melissa Rhea was installed as president-elect of the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C., a voluntary, nonprofit bar association of trial lawyers who mainly represent plaintiffs and claimants.
