ARCHDIOCESAN LEGAL NETWORK Troutman Sanders received the James Cardinal Hickey award from the Archdiocesan Legal Network. The award, presented in memory of Network founder James Cardinal Hickey, who died last year, honored Troutman Sanders for its volunteerism. D.C. CIRCUIT JUDICIAL CONFERENCE The D.C. Circuit Judicial Conference Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services has recognized eight D.C. law firms for meeting the benchmark of having 40 percent of their attorneys personally provide 50 or more hours of pro bono service in 2004. The firms honored were Arnold & Porter; Covington & Burling; Crowell & Moring; DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary; Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson; Howrey; Jenner & Block; and Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr. DUPONT LEGAL Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky and Kirkpartick Lockhart Nicholson & Graham both received DuPont Legal’s 2004 Meeting the Challenge award. Issued by DuPont to a select group of primary law firms and service providers, the award recognizes firms for service and accomplishments in support of the DuPont Legal Model. LEGAL AID SOCIETY The Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia honored Shelley Broderick, dean of the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, and Andy Marks, a partner at Crowell & Moring, at its 16th annual Servant of Justice Awards dinner. A Servant of Justice Award is presented to individuals or organizations who have demonstrated faithful dedication and remarkable achievement in ensuring that all individuals have equal and meaningful access to justice in the District. NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS The Legal Foundation of the National Federation of Independent Business has named former solicitor general and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher partner Theodore Olson to its advisory board. As a board member, Olson will help select cases to pursue, as well as recommend topics for legal advisory material for small-business owners. THELEN REID & PRIEST Andrew Ness, the managing partner at the D.C. office of Thelen Reid & Priest, has been named managing partner of operations for the East Coast.
