U.S. ATTORNEY LOSES KEY CRIMINAL STAFFER Hannah Horsley, chief of the criminal appellate section for the Northern District U.S. attorney’s office, has resigned. Horsley, who has held that spot for nearly three years, is moving to Portland, Ore. She said Wednesday she planned to continue practicing law but hasn’t yet settled on a new position. U.S. Attorney Kevin Ryan has not named Horsley’s successor but will conduct an internal and external search, according to a spokeswoman. Horsley is going to Portland because her husband, Morrison & Foerster associate Johnathan Mansfield, got a new gig at Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt. He will be a partner in the firm’s intellectual property litigation practice. Horsley received her J.D. from Yale University Law School in 1992. She clerked for Tenth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Deanell Reece Tacha, and then worked at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. After that, Horsley went to the U.S. Sentencing Commission before joining the Seattle U.S. attorney’s office. She came to San Francisco in May 2001 and was acting chief of the Organized Crime Strike Force before she made appellate chief in July 2002. Horsley leaves June 3. — Jeff Chorney
