AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION SECTION OF ANTITRUST LAW John Villafranco, a partner at Collier Shannon Scott, chaired the session on consumer protection at the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law spring meeting. He practices in the firm’s advertising and marketing practice group. AMERICAN COLLEGE OF BANKRUPTCY Andrew Kassner, a partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath and co-chair of the firm’s finance and restructuring group, has been elected as a fellow to the American College of Bankruptcy, an honorary professional and educational association of bankruptcy and insolvency professionals headquartered in the District. Kassner is one of 34 new fellows and was inducted at a ceremony in March at the U.S. Supreme Court. Fellows are chosen for membership in the college based on a distinguished record of achievement. The college has approximately 607 fellows nationwide, each selected by a Board of Regents from recommendations received from the Circuit Admissions Council in each federal judicial circuit. AMERICAN COLLEGE OF TAX COUNSEL J. Roger Mentz, of counsel at White & Case, was elected as a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. He has close to 40 years of experience in tax law. In addition to representing clients, he was assistant secretary of the treasury for tax policy during the deliberation and enactment of the Tax Reform Act of 1986. THE BOND BUYER Hunton & Williams has been named by The Bond Buyer as the No. 1 bond counsel in the Southeast for 2004. This marks the second time in four years that the firm has held a first-place position in the publication’s year-end rankings for the Southeast. Hunton & Williams also received first-place rankings in both Virginia and the District of Columbia. According to the rankings, the firm advised as bond counsel on more than $2.7 billion in bond issues in the Southeast.
