COZEN SCOOPS UP MOST OF MANHATTAN FIRM NEW YORK — Philadelphia-based Cozen O’Connor has expanded its New York presence with the addition of most of the lawyers of the politically connected Manhattan firm Fischbein Badillo Wagner Harding. Of Fischbein Badillo’s 45 lawyers, 35 will be joining Cozen O’Connor, which will then have about 70 lawyers in New York. Richard Fischbein, a partner at Fischbein Badillo, said the 10 lawyers not joining Cozen O’Connor were in a personal injury practice that conflicted with the Philadelphia firm’s substantial insurance subrogation practice. That group would continue to use the Fischbein Badillo name as the firm wound up its affairs, he said. Fischbein said the lawyers at his firm had long been looking for a merger with a larger firm like Cozen O’Connor, which could buttress the smaller firm’s expertise in litigation and real estate with practices like corporate and tax. “It’s what you have to do in today’s legal market,” he said. “You have to provide these services because other firms are doing it.” Cozen O’Connor has almost 500 lawyers nationwide. — New York Law Journal
