ORRICK, HERRINGTON LIFTS THREE IN BAY AREA OFFICES Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has elevated 10 associates to partner, expanding its partnership ranks to 284. Half of the new partners are based in the firm’s New York office, two are in Menlo Park, and one is based in the firm’s San Francisco headquarters. The 700-lawyer firm promoted eight to partner last year and 13 in 2003. Corporate attorney John Cook, a 1996 graduate of UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law, was elevated in the San Francisco office. In Silicon Valley, employment lawyer Mark Howitson and intellectual property attorney Matthew Poppe joined the partnership. Howitson received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1997, and Poppe graduated from the University of Chicago Law School in 1994. Michael Tu, a 1996 graduate of UCLA School of Law, was elevated in the Los Angeles office. — Brenda Sandburg
