San Francisco Preston Gates & Ellishas hired a partner and two associates, boosting its Asia practice. Partner L. Howard Chenwill work to continue the development of the firm’s IP practice in Silicon Valley and Asia. Chen’s background includes counseling emerging and established tech companies in both the U.S. and Asia. He received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. Ting-Mao Chaojoins the firm’s IP practice. Chao’s experience includes assisting clients in IP law, patent prosecution and licensing matters. He is a graduate of Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, N.H. Joseph Hwangworks in the corporate securities/M&A practice. He received his J.D. from Tulane Law School. O’Melveny & Myershas elevated Randall Edwardsto partner. Edwards, who joined the firm in 1997, is a member of the IP and technology department. He is a 1995 graduate of Northwestern University School of Law. Thomas Butlerhas joined SiliconCounsel’s securities and M&A practice as a partner. Butler has been a corporate attorney with Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps and general counsel of Semaphore Partners. He is a Harvard Law School graduate. Thomas Trapphas been named managing partner of BargCoffin Lewis & Trapp, taking over the reins from Stephen Lewis, who has had the job since the firm’s inception in 2000. Trapp advises public and private clients on water and air quality, solid and hazardous waste and Superfund laws. He is a 1979 graduate of Hastings College of the Law. Barg Coffin also has added Kathryn Martinas an environmental associate. Most recently with Hancock Rothert & Bunshoft, Martin is a 2003 graduate of Hastings. South Bay Former Cisco director Ellen Jamasonhas joined Bingham McCutchenas a partner. Jamason joins the real estate group in East Palo Alto after serving as a senior director of worldwide real estate and site development at Cisco Systems Inc. She is a 1989 graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law. O’Melveny & Myershas elevated Stephen Sonneto partner in Menlo Park. Sonne joined the firm in 2003 and is a member of the transactions department. He received his J.D. in 1997 from Duke University School of Law. Fish & Richardsonhas promoted Brenda Leeds Binderand Ping Hwungto partner in its Redwood City office. Binder’s practice emphasizes patent prosecution in the area of the mechanical arts and computer software. She is a 1995 graduate of the University of Alberta law school. Hwung specializes in patent prosecution in the area of biotechnology and pharmaceutical inventions. She received her J.D. in 1997 from Boalt Hall School of Law. East Bay Wendel, Rosen, Black & Deanin Oakland has elevated Daniel Myersto partner. Myers is a member of the firm’s real estate and land use groups. He received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1995. Wendel, Rosen also has added Sidney Israelsas a partner in the real estate and business practice. A native of Modesto, Israels has more than 25 years of legal experience. He graduated from UCLA School of Law in 1969. Southern California Litigator John Gattihas joined Greenberg Traurigin Los Angeles as co-chair of the firm’s entertainment and media litigation group. Formerly a partner at Alschuler Grossman Stein & Kahan, Gatti’s clients include high-profile entertainers, athletes and various studios, production companies and other businesses involved in the development and distribution of entertainment projects. He is a 1988 graduate of University of Southern California Law School. Biotech specialist Joseph Baker Jr.has joined Burns, Doane, Swecker & Mathisas counsel in San Diego. Baker joins the firm from Fish & Richardson. He also has been an in-house counsel for Immunex Corp. and Advanced Tissue Sciences Inc. He received his J.D. from California Western School of Law. Murchison & Cumminghas elevated Richard Morenoto partner in Los Angeles and William Snyder, in San Diego. Moreno is a member of the product liability and transportation practice. He joined the firm in 1997 after graduating from Whittier College School of Law. Snyder focuses on employment law, environmental law/toxic torts, catastrophic injury and general liability. He received his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.
