Party till you quit Concord, N.H. (AP)-A New Hampshire judge who was suspended for groping five women at a conference on sexual assault and domestic violence resigned on Jan. 26, the same day a committee recommended he not get his job back. “I wish to again express my apologies to those who have been impacted by my inappropriate conduct,” Judge Franklin Jones wrote in a two-page letter to Governor John Lynch. A judicial conduct committee concluded that Jones’ groping of five victims’ advocates of his court “demeaned his judicial office and cast reasonable doubt in the eyes of the public on his continuing capacity to act in an impartial manner.” Jones, 56, was suspended in May. In September, he pleaded no contest to simple assault, reduced from sexual assault charges. Late-night partying at the conference also led to Attorney General Peter W. Heeds’ resignation after an investigation began into whether he inappropriately touched a woman on the dance floor. Bobblehead mania Birmingham, Ala. (AP)-The Birmingham law office of Tommy Spina started receiving an unusually high number of calls in early December requesting not the lawyer’s legal services, but his resemblance on a bobblehead doll. “They say, ‘I want a bobblehead,’” Spina told the Birmingham News. “They were just intended to be a little novelty item. It was intended just to be fun and to make light of myself.” But the 6-inch, custom-made bobbleheads have grown in popularity. Each one replicates Spina, sporting a red tie, dark suit, criminal law book, briefcase and salt-and-pepper locks. His office said calls have come in from as far as the West Coast, and the bobbleheads can be seen all over Birmingham.
