HARATANI MOVES ON TO MORGAN, LEWIS After three years with Shook, Hardy & Bacon, Joan Haratani is moving to Morgan, Lewis & Bockius’ San Francisco office. Haratani, whose practice ranges from product liability to securities fraud, joins the firm’s litigation group Haratani, 47, is president-elect of the Bar Association of San Francisco and will be the group’s first woman minority president when she steps into that role in December. She is former regional governor of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and past president of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area. Haratani previously spent 17 years with Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May. “While Shook has been terrific, I made the difficult decision to join Morgan, Lewis because it is a spectacular law firm with an international reputation,” said Haratani. Morgan, Lewis has 1,200 lawyers and 19 offices worldwide, including locations in Palo Alto, San Francisco and Los Angeles. — Marie-Anne Hogarth

New Partners

BAKER ELEVATES FIVE IN BAY AREA OFFICES Baker & McKenzie announced this week the election of five new partners to its San Francisco and Palo Alto offices, bringing the number of partners in the office to 39. Susan Eandi, 32, an employment lawyer in Palo Alto, graduated in 1997 from Hastings College of the Law. Scott Frewing, 37, a Palo Alto specialist in tax litigation and white-collar criminal defense, graduated in 1997 from Georgetown University Law Center. Robert Marshall, 34, who is based in San Francisco and concentrates his practice in the areas of international stock plans, executive compensation and employee benefits, graduated in 1997 from UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law. Stuart Pixley, 37, who is based in San Francisco and focuses on sophisticated technology and IP transactions and strategic intellectual property counseling, graduated in 1997 from Boalt Hall School of Law. Sharon Yau, 38, whose San Francisco practice concentrates on international business, corporate and financial transactions, graduated from the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law with two degrees in the late 1980s.
