AMERICAN COLLEGE OF TRIAL LAWYERS The American College of Trial Lawyers has elected its new fellows for 2004, including a number of attorneys from the D.C. area. Induction into the college is limited to 1 percent of lawyers in any state or province and is open only to experienced trial lawyers whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility, and collegiality. New fellows include: William Coston, managing partner of the D.C. office of Venable; Richard Cys, partner in charge of the the D.C. office of Davis Wright Tremaine; W. Neil Eggleston, co-chair of the white collar criminal defense group at Howrey Simon White & Arnold; and James Murphy, former partner in charge of litigation at Bryan Cave. Murphy is now of counsel at the firm. CARIBBEAN-CENTRAL AMERICAN ACTION Mark Palchick, a partner at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, has been appointed as a member of the board of trustees of Caribbean-Central American Action. CCAA is an independent organization that promotes private sector-led economic development in the Caribbean Basin and throughout the Western Hemisphere. DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA DEFENSE LAWYERS’ ASSOCIATION Thomas Hogan, a partner at Hogan & Heald, was the recipient of the 2004 Defense Lawyer of the Year Award from the District of Columbia Defense Lawyers’ Association. Hogan’s practice focuses on medical malpractice and health care-related matters, insurance, and personal injury litigation. HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN The Human Rights Campaign awarded the 2004 National Ally of Justice Award to the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy and Georgetown University Law Center professor Louis Michael Siedman.
