LEGISLATOR TO JOIN HANSON, BRIDGETT Sacramento Assemblyman Darrell Steinberg will join Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos & Rudy as of counsel next month in what firm leaders call a move to bolster the San Francisco firm’s fast-growing government relations and ethics practice. The three-term Democrat is leaving the Legislature due to term limits. Managing Partner Andrew Giacomini said he got to know Steinberg through the firm’s involvement in the Capital Unity Council, a nonprofit formed five years ago in response to hate crimes in the Sacramento region. “People ask, ‘Is [Steinberg] not going to be a lobbyist?’” Giacomini said. “He will be a lawyer.” The firm’s government ethics group provides independent investigation services to public entities when there are questions surrounding officials. For instance, attorneys from the group were hired to investigate the city of San Jose’s procurement of a contract with Cisco Systems. The firm’s government relations practice also represents public and private entities doing work in the public sector. Prior to his election to the State Assembly, Steinberg served on the Sacramento City Council for six years. He is a San Francisco native who earned his J.D. in 1984 from UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law. He served as an employee rights attorney for 10 years before going into private practice as an arbitrator and mediator. — Marie-Anne Hogarth
