APPEAL COURT JUSTICE ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT Margaret Grignon, a justice on Los Angeles’ Second District Court of Appeal for 14 years, announced Tuesday that she would retire from the bench at the end of the year. She expects to resume a private law practice. “Justice Grignon’s reputation as an exceptionally accomplished and outstanding judge is well deserved,” Roger Boren, the court’s administrative presiding justice, said in a prepared statement. “She has been a stalwart colleague and a fine friend.” Grignon, 50, who was born in Plainfield, N.J., but raised in Riverside, began her judicial career in 1984 on L.A.’s Antelope Municipal Court. She was elevated to the superior court in 1987 and appointed to the appellate bench in 1990. According to a press statement, the justice has authored more than 2,200 opinions, of which at least 156 have been published. Grignon graduated summa cum laude from Loyola Law School in 1977 and practiced tax and business law in Los Angeles and San Diego for seven years. The judge’s last day will be Dec. 31. — Mike McKee
