ELECTION PROTECTION 2004 Michael Remington, a partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath, has been appointed co-chair of the Washington legal coordinating committee of Election Protection 2004. Herbert Hansell of Jones Day will also co-chair. Election Protection is a nonpartisan national program of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Co-sponsored by the American Bar Association and the National Bar Association, Election Protection 2004 was founded to protect voting rights and promote understanding of the electoral process. LEGAL MARKETING ASSOCIATION Mark Greene of the Brand Research Co. has been elected to his fourth and fifth years as a member-at-large of the Legal Marketing Association, a not-for-profit organization that provides resources and a forum for discussion for individuals involved in legal marketing. NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN LAWYERS Katherine Henry of Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky is one of 13 women named to the 2004-05 executive board for the National Association of Women Lawyers. Henry will serve as a member-at-large. The association is a national voluntary legal professional organization devoted to the interests of women lawyers and their families. U.S. DISTRICT COURT, EASTERN DISTRICT OF VIRGINIA Walter Kelley Jr. has been appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Kelley was first nominated by President George W. Bush in October 2003, and was unanimously confirmed by the U.S Senate on June 23. He was endorsed by the Virginia State Bar and recommended by the Virginia Bar Association and the Norfolk & Portsmouth Bar Association. Prior to his appointment, Kelley was a partner at Troutman Sanders in its complex litigation practice group. WORKING MOTHERS Arnold & Porter has been named to Working Mother‘s annual list of “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers.” Arnold & Porter is the only law firm to be honored this year and has been listed on four prior occasions, including in 2002, when it was selected “Best in Class” in the “Leave for New Parents” category.
