New Partners Greenberg Traurig: Eric Tunis joins the firm as shareholder in the litigation department in the firm’s Florham Park, N.J., office. He was previously of counsel to the appellate, labor and employment, life sciences and white-collar defense groups at Atlanta-based Kirkpatrick & Lockhart. Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal: Joshua G. Berman joined as partner in the firm’s Washington office. A federal prosecutor for more than seven years, his practice focuses on white-collar criminal work. Wiley Rein & Fielding (Washington): Gregg Elias rejoins the firm as partner in the communications and government affairs practices. He was previously Democratic general counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. New Counsel McCarter & English (Newark, N.J.): Thomas F. Doherty comes on board as special counsel to the home office. An employment and commercial litigator, he was previously a partner at Newark’s Tompkins, McGuire, Wachenfeld & Barry. Preston Gates & Ellis (Seattle): Carol A. Pratt joins the life sciences practice as of counsel to the firm’s Portland, Ore., office. She was previously at Seattle’s Davis Wright Tremaine, and before that, a neuroscientist at the National Institutes of Health. Venable: Ralph E. Sharpe comes on board as head of, and senior counsel to, the financial services group risk management and compliance team in the firm’s Washington office. He arrives from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, where he served as deputy comptroller. He was the agency’s chief representative for interagency financial and banking infrastructure protection efforts following 9/11. The team, including representatives from the Federal Reserve and the SEC, helped to implement policies to address vulnerabilities of the U.S. financial services sector. Laterals Coudert Brothers (New York): Two attorneys join as partners in the firm’s Bangkok, Thailand, office-Surasak Vajasit and Stephen Bennett. Specialists in finance, they were both previously partners in the Bangkok office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer of London. Holland & Knight: Matthew A. Lopes Jr. joins the public policy and regulation practice as partner in the firm’s Providence, R.I., office. Previously a partner at Boston-based Brown Rudnick Berlack Israels, he has also served as a court-appointed special master for the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island, and has lobbied on behalf of clients in the health care, telecommunications and pharmaceutical industries. Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman: E. Michael Bradley joins the litigation practice group as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously partner and chairman of the New York litigation group at Jones Day. Kirkland & Ellis (Chicago): Angelo F. Tiesi joins the trusts and estates practice as partner in the firm’s home office. He was previously partner and chairman of the Chicago estate planning group at Michael Best & Friedrich. Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe: Yoshitada Ogiso comes on board as partner the firm’s Tokyo-based registered associated law office, Orrick Tokyo Law Offices. Previously a partner at Tokyo’s Mitsui, Yasuda, Wani & Maeda, he joins a team of seven Japanese lawyers, most of whom came from Mitsui Yasuda. Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker (Los Angeles): Gregg Vignos joins the corporate department as partner in the firm’s San Francisco office. He was previously a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop. Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton (Los Angeles): Guylyn Cummins joins the entertainment and media group as partner in the firm’s San Diego office. Previously a partner at Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich, she represents media clients relating to First Amendment issues, including advertising content trademark fair use. New Arrivals Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson (New York): Three corporate attorneys join as partners in the firm’s London office-Jerry Walter, Sian Withey and David Sheldon. Jerry Walter arrives from Simmons & Simmons of London, where he was head of the corporate practice. Withey and Sheldon arrive from Ashurst of London. Kilpatrick Stockton (Atlanta): Five attorneys join the firm’s Washington office- As counsel, Mark Stember (employee benefits practice) and Len Malamud (real estate practice); and as associates, Vinay Jolly (litigation practice), Amanda McCoy (intellectual property practice) and Michael White (environmental practice). New Offices Lathrop & Gage (Kansas City, Mo.) is opening an office in New York. William R. Hansen and Elizabeth Atkins join the firm’s new office as partners. Bert A. Collison and Oliver P. Howes Jr. join as of counsel. They were all previously at Philadelphia-based Duane Morris. Elected George P. Parker, of counsel to the San Antonio, Texas, office of Houston’s Bracewell & Patterson, has been elected to the board of directors of the National Veterans Legal Services Program. This is in recognition of his pro bono work in securing veterans’ benefits and a purple heart for a World War II Navajo code talker. Appointed Barry Salzberg, managing partner at Deloitte & Touche of Los Angeles, has been appointed chairman of the board of the YMCA of Greater New York.
