AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY David Smorodin, 47, has been named assistant general counsel for the American Chemical Society. Most recently he was chief litigation counsel for MCI Inc. Smorodin received his J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law. BRYAN CAVE John Peirce has joined Bryan Cave as a partner in the antitrust/U.S. trade regulation and commercial litigation client services groups. Most recently he was a partner at Howrey Simon Arnold & White. Peirce, 51, received his J.D. from Cornell Law School. DOUGLAS & BOYKIN The law offices of Douglas & Boykin have relocated to 1100 New York Ave., N.W., Suite 500 W, Washington, D.C. 20005-3964. LECG, LLC David Bloch has joined LECG as a principal in the national forensic accounting practice. Bloch, 41, focuses on forensic investigations for publicly traded and privately held companies, securities fraud, and white collar crime. Prior to joining LECG, he was an assistant chief litigation counsel in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement. He received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. LEGAL SERVICES CORP. Richard “Kirt” West was appointed inspector general of the Legal Services Corp. West, 56, joined the LSC from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was executive director of the Inspector General Management Institute. He graduated from Northwestern University School of Law. PILLSBURY WINTHROP Pillsbury Winthrop announces the addition of five new intellectual property attorneys from Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo. James Gatto joins the firm as a partner. He was co-chair of the IP practice at Mintz Levin. Gatto, 41, received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Rick Toering, 38, also joins as a partner. He earned his law degree from George Washington University Law School. Sean Ingram, 31, joins the firm as an associate. He graduated from the University of Richmond School of Law. Bradford Blaise, 29, also joins as an associate. He received his J.D. from Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. Finally, Timothy Rooney, 27, also joins as an associate. REED SMITH Tracy Acker, 38, has joined Reed Smith’s Food and Drug Administration practice group as a regulatory affairs specialist. Before joining Reed Smith, Acker was an FDA liaison for Johnson & Johnson. WOMBLE CARLYLE Jonathan Groner, 53, has joined Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice as senior communications counsel. Prior to joining the firm, he was editor at large at Legal Times. WORLD BANK Vijay Tata, 49, has been appointed chief counsel of the finance, private sector, and infrastructure practice group at the World Bank. Tata is a former partner in the New York office of Arnold & Porter.
