BAR ASSOCIATION OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA William Atkins, a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop, has been chosen president-elect of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia. He will begin his one-year term as president in June 2005. William Davis of Ross, Marsh & Foster assumed the presidency. D.C. BAR Adam Leighton, an associate with Cohen & Cohen, has been re-elected to a second term on the Tort Law Steering Committee of the D.C. Bar. Committee members serve three-year terms. MEXICAN AMERICAN LEGAL DEFENSE AND EDUCATIONAL FUND Brigida Benitez, a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, and Esther Olavarria, counsel for the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, were the recipients of the Excellence in the Legal Profession Award at MALDEF’s annual awards dinner. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the Latino community. STEWARDS OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING OF THE FUTURE William Kelly, a former Latham & Watkins partner specializing in major finance and real estate transactions, has been elected president of Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future. SAHF is a 503(c)(3) organization formed to enable national nonprofits to preserve and improve affordable rental homes. VIRGINIA STATE BAR David Bobzien, the county attorney for Fairfax, has been named the 66th president of the Virginia State Bar.
