New partners Pepper Hamilton (Philadelphia): George A. Lehner rejoins the firm as partner in the Washington office. Previously deputy assistant legal adviser for international claims and investment disputes at the U.S. State Department, he is rejoining the firm’s health effects litigation group. Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal: Hunter Wiggins joins the firm’s Chicago office as partner in the litigation practice. Wiggins arrives from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, where he was a deputy assistant director of its enforcement division. Zeichner Ellman & Krause (New York): Paul B. Hahn comes on board as partner in the firm’s commercial finance and bankruptcy group. Previously a member of Brown, Raysman, Millstein, Felder & Steiner of New York, he has served as a special assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and as president of the Association of Commercial Finance Attorneys. Laterals Duane Morris (Philadelphia): Two partners from Kirkpatrick & Lockhart arrive at the firm�Loren Schechter and James A. Tricarico Jr. The two will co-chair the firm’s national broker-dealer practice. Kelley Drye & Warren (New York): Two intellectual property partners join the firm’s Chicago office. Previously partners at Dallas’ Jenkens & Gilchrist, Steve Szczepanski and Mary Jo Boldingh have extensive expertise in large patent litigation involving polymer chemistry, telecommunications, MRI technology, Internet software and medical diagnostics. Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker (Los Angeles): Raj Pande joins the firm’s global project finance group as head of Asia project finance in Tokyo. Previously at the Singapore office of White & Case, he specializes in project development and finance with a focus on oil and gas. Proskauer Rose (New York): Mark W. Batten joins the Boston office as partner in the firm’s labor and employment department. He was previously a partner at Bingham McCutchen. Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson (Miami): Six attorneys from the Fort Lauderdale office of Orlando, Fla.’s Akerman Senterfitt have joined Stearns’ Fort Lauderdale office�Paul Regensdorf Bill Ricker and Tom Aubin (partners, litigation); Jon Stage and Eric Gabrielle (partners, labor and employment); and Christina Varghese (associate, litigation). New counsel Hiscock & Barclay (Syracuse, N.Y.): James Tacci joins the Rochester, N.Y., office as of counsel. Tacci is a health law attorney focusing primarily on regulatory compliance and corporate transactional issues. Tacci is a licensed and practicing physician as well as an attorney. Nixon Peabody: Susan Freedman joins the firm’s Washington office as counsel in the technology and intellectual property group. Previously a partner at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner of Washington, she focuses on trademark rights protection. Steptoe & Johnson (Washington): Andrew D. Irwin comes on board as special counsel in the firm’s home office. Previously in-house counsel with Bechtel National Inc. in San Francisco, he focuses on government contracts, corporate compliance and export controls. New association Responding to the growing multicultural legal community in South Florida, attorneys have formed the Asian Pacific American Bar Association to provide networking and social opportunities for American legal professionals of Asia-Pacific descents. Firm management Day, Berry & Howard (Hartford, Conn.) is to expand its practice into New Haven, Conn. Three of the firm’s partners, Robert G. Siegel, Richard D. Harris and Glenn W. Dowd, will relocate, and three New Haven attorneys, Mark G. Sklarz, Keith Bradoc Gallant and Michael N. Delgass, all of Cummings & Lockwood of Stamford, Conn., will join the firm as partners. Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott (Pittsburgh): Six attorneys have been elected to the firm’s board of directors for a three-year term�John R. McGinley Jr. (business), Christoper R. Opalinski and Dennis L. Veraldi (litigation), David V. Radack (intellectual property), Thomas J. Sweeney (products liability) and Richard S. Wiedman (environmental and energy). Appointed David M. Schizer, a Columbia Law School professor, has been named dean of the law school. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Schizer, 35, received an M.A. in history and a degree in law at Yale. Following clerkships with U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Alex Kozinski and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Schizer joined the tax department of Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York before coming to Columbia Law School in 1998 to be Wilbur H. Friedman Professor of Tax Law. In 2003, he was awarded the school’s Willis L.M. Reese Prize for Excellence in Teaching. Elected Barry Slotnick, partner in the New York office of Loeb & Loeb, has been elected president of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A. Slotnick, a vice president of the society since 2002, is an intellectual property litigator who has litigated numerous copyright infringement and trademark infringement disputes. Honored Arnold & Porter has been presented with the 2004 Constance L. Belfiore Quality of Life Award by the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, honoring the firm’s family and workplace policies, including its on-site children’s center and adoption-expense reimbursement plan.
