New partners Arnold & Porter (Washington): Luc Gyselen, a senior official with the Directorate-General for Competition at the European Commission, will join the firm’s Brussels office as partner. Bingham McCutchen has expanded its broker-dealer practice group with the addition of three partners�Eric S. Seltzer, formerly deputy counsel/senior vice president of UBS Financial Services Inc. (East Coast); Paul D. Allen, former executive director and assistant general counsel/first vice president at Morgan Stanley DW (San Francisco); and Nader Hossain Salehi, former counsel at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering’s securities practice group (Washington). Kilpatrick Stockton (Atlanta): Tony Smith and Tom Wilson have joined the firm’s construction practice group and its international arbitration and dispute resolution team as partners in the firm’s home office. Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton (Los Angeles): Two government attorneys join the firm�Roscoe C. Howard Jr., U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, and Mark E. Nagle, chief of the civil division of the office of the U.S. attorney. Smith Moore (Greensboro, N.C.): Bill Stewart joins the health care group in the firm’s Raleigh, N.C., office. He arrives from the N.C. Department of Justice, where he served as an assistant attorney general in the environmental division. Laterals Greenberg Traurig: Two attorneys join the Los Angeles office�Naoki Kawada comes aboard as of counsel in the corporate department and Gregory P. Wong as associate in the labor and employment group. As director of the firm’s Japanese practice group, Kawada will focus on providing corporate and securities advice to Japanese clients. Kawada was previously an associate at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey; Wong was an associate at San Franciso’s Littler Mendelson. Kirkpatrick & Lockhart: Christopher O.B. Wright has joined as a partner in the antitrust and intellectual property practice groups. Wright was a partner at Cooley Godward in Palo Alto, California. King & Spalding (Atlanta): W. Edward Bailey joins the firm as partner and Theresa A. Moehlman joins as counsel. They arrive from intellectual property firm Fish & Neave of New York, where they practiced together on many cases. Schiff Hardin & Waite (Chicago): Two attorneys come aboard as counsel�Kelly L. Morron joins the firm’s intellectual property group in New York; Daniel J. Deeb joins the environmental group in the home office. Morron was previously counsel at Chadbourne & Parke of New York; Deeb was previously partner at Beckman Lawson in Fort Wayne, Ind. White & Case: Sam J. Alberts joins the firm as partner in the Washington office. Alberts, formerly a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, will focus on bankruptcy work. New counsel Tannebaum, Planas & Weiss (Miami): Jennifer J. Ator joins the firm as of counsel, focusing on commercial and employment litigation. She was previously an associate in the Miami office of New York’s Weil, Gotshal & Manges. Firm management Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson (Miami) has elected shareholders Michael I. Keyes, Mark D. Solov and Mimi L. Sall to the firm’s board of directors. The firm has also elected Richard E. Schatz as managing partner; real estate attorney Chava E. Genet as hiring partner; and promoted attorneys Jeffrey E. Norman, Andrew L. Rodman and Jonathan C. Vair to shareholders. Baker & Hostetler has named Marc Powers as head of the firm’s national securities law enforcement practice. Powers, formerly of Reed Smith, recently represented Douglas Faneuil, the Merrill Lynch assistant broker and key government witness in the ImClone/Martha Stewart civil and criminal proceedings. Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi (Minneapolis) has appointed Keith R. Styles as managing partner of the firm’s Washington office. A partner since 1990, Styles represents business entities and individuals in complex business transactions. Elected Jorge A. Martinez, an attorney at Snell & Wilmer’s Orange County, Calif., office, has been elected trustee for the Orange County Hispanic Bar Association. Honored Everett Bellamy, assistant dean for J.D. programs at the Georgetown University Law Center, is the recipient of the National Bar Association’s presidential award. He was commended for being co-founder and director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Preparatory Law institute, a nonprofit summer prelaw program that prepares students of color for law school. Lawrence M. Gill, partner at Schiff Hardin & Waite of Chicago, was honored by the Illinois CPA Society with its Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is bestowed on society members who have a long history of professional achievement and an outstanding record of service in both the society and the accounting profession. Betty Y. Jang, associate in the Champaign, Ill., office of Chicago’s Hinshaw & Culbertson, has been selected by the Illinois State Bar Association as Young Lawyer of the Year.
