Weber, a partner in the Philadelphia office of Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby, led the Workers’ Compensation Practice & Procedure 2004 continuing legal education seminar, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, on Friday, March 19, in Pittsburgh. Weber serves as the chairman of the course planning committee and is a co-author of Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Practice & Procedure. The daylong course covered recent developments in the law, offering “hot tips” for handling complex issues. Weber concentrates his practice in the representation of employers in workers’ compensation matters. Elected and Appointed Hara K. Jacobs, a partner in the litigation department and a member of the intellectual property group at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, has been elected to the board of trustees of the Greater Philadelphia chapter of The ALS Association. The association is the only health organization in the tri-state area dedicated to finding the cause, treatment and cure for what is commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Jacobs has litigated a wide variety of intellectual property matters including trademark, trade dress, copyright, right of publicity, trade secret and false advertising cases. The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has announced the appointment of Samuel H. Pond to the board of law examiners for a three-year term. Pond is a workers’ compensation attorney with the firm of Martin Banks Pond Lehocky & Wilson in Philadelphia. Seminars Pepper Hamilton is presenting a seminar on the special employment issues that affect government contractors. Lawyers in the firm’s labor and employment group and government contacts group will teach the half-day seminar, which will be offered in Washington, D.C., on Friday, April 2, and in Philadelphia on Friday, April 16. This seminar is designed for business owners, in-house counsel and human resource professionals of businesses, both large and small, who are doing business with the federal government in all fields — manufacturing, construction and services. The new Fair Labor Standards Act regulations are being issued at the end of March and will have a dramatic impact on all employers.
