AMERICAN TORT REFORM ASSOCIATION The American Tort Reform Association has named Leah Lorber a “Legal Reform Champion” for her work in support of civil justice reform. Lorber, of counsel in the D.C. office of Shook, Hardy & Bacon, advocates civil justice changes through her lobbying activities, amici curiae brief submissions, and writings on legal reform matters. Others recognized with Lorber were Sheila Birnbaum and George Meros Jr. HERNDON DULLES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The Herndon Dulles Chamber of Commerce has honored Grayson Hanes with the January 2004 “Best of Herndon Dulles” award for his years of community service. Hanes, a Reed Smith partner in Falls Church, Va., is chairman of the Herndon Dulles Visitors Center board of directors. U.S. TAX COURT Joel Gerber has been elected chief judge of the U.S. Tax Court for a two-year term beginning June 1. He succeeds current Chief Judge Thomas Wells. Gerber was first appointed to the tax court by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. VIRGINIA LAW FOUNDATION Gregory Murphy has been elected a fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation. The fellows program recognizes lawyers who excel in the practice of law, in public service, and in their support of Virginia Law Foundation programs. Fellows are deemed by their peers to be outstanding in their profession and community.
