BAKER BOTTS Baker Botts has elevated Maura Goldstein from associate to partner in the District. Goldstein, 39, works in the global projects practice, representing lenders and borrowers in complex financing transactions. Goldstein is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. MCGUIREWOODS Laurie Neff has joined McGuireWoods as an associate in the firm’s commercial litigation department in Tysons Corner, Va. Before joining McGuireWoods, she was an associate at Wolcott, Rivers, Wheary, Basnight & Kelly. Neff, 32, received her law degree from Pepperdine University School of Law. PILLSBURY WINTHROP Pillsbury Winthrop has promoted two attorneys to partner in the firm’s McLean, Va., office. Caroline Dennison, 41, focuses on patent prosecution and client counseling. Dennison was counsel at the firm and received her law degree from George Washington University Law School. Kevin Kramer, 38, focuses on intellectual property litigation. Kramer was a senior associate and graduated from Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. SCHIFF HARDIN & WAITE Schiff Hardin & Waite has expanded its corporate and securities group with the addition of Patricio Garavito as an associate in the firm’s D.C. office. Garavito, 31, specializes in corporate and securities transactions, with an emphasis on representing high-tech clients. Previously, Garavito was a D.C. associate at Fenwick & West. He graduated from Northwestern University School of Law. SONNENSCHEIN NATH & ROSENTHAL Paul Kavinoky, 35, has joined Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal as managing director in the public law and policy strategies group in its D.C. office. Kavinoky, a congressional staffer for nearly a decade, was most recently legislative director to Rep. George Nethercutt Jr. (R-Wash.). He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of the Pacific-Stockton in California. WILLIAMS MULLEN Williams Mullen has expanded its business practice with the addition of John Sullivan III as a D.C. partner. Sullivan represents underwriters, institutional investors, venture capitalists, corporations, directors, and shareholders. Sullivan, 50, was a partner at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae.
