San Francisco Cox, Castle & Nicholson has hired seven new attorneys, including three in the San Francisco office. Douglas Van Gessel joins the firm as a partner in the land development group. Van Gessel represents clients in all aspects of real estate transactions. Previously he had been with the real estate group at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. He is a 1987 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. Associate Kimberly Kubena will continue her transactional practice in the area of real estate development, focusing on commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions, leasing and land use matters. Kubena previously was with Cooper, White & Cooper. She received her J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law. Karleen O’Connor joins the environmental practice. She previously was with Faegre & Benson. She graduated from George Washington University Law School. Southern California Cox, Castle & Nicholson has hired seven new attorneys, including four in the Los Angeles office. Dennis Naish joins the firm as senior counsel in the construction litigation practice. He frequently represents owners, contractors, subcontractors, construction managers and design professionals. Previously Naish had been with Castle & Associates. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Law in 1989. Tisha Greene is joining the joint venture practice as an associate. Her practice focuses on representing public and private companies, including individual developers and nonprofit organizations in real estate transactions. Prior to joining the firm, Greene was a real estate associate with Latham & Watkins. She received her J.D. from Howard University School of Law. Associate Laura Riley joins the retail development practice from O’Melveny & Myers where she gained broad experience in asset acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, real estate finance, low-income housing tax credit transactions, retail development and land use law. She graduated from UCLA School of Law. Andrea Saunders joins the firm as a finance associate. She received her J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law. Philadelphia’s Dechert has elevated seven associates to partner, including Douglas Dick, who practices in the firm’s financial services group in the Newport Beach office. Dick advises open- and closed-end investment companies, offshore funds, private investment funds and investment advisers in regulatory, corporate and business matters. He is a 1995 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. Cotkin, Collins & Ginsburg has elevated Kevin Duffis of the Orange County office to partner. Duffis’ practice includes medical malpractice, health care and general litigation. He is a 1996 graduate of Loyola Law School.
