New Partners Archer & Greiner (Haddonfield, N.J.): Jeffrey D. Gordon, a specialist in local property taxation, state taxation and eminent domain proceedings, and Mark J. Sever Jr., who concentrates his practice in Internet and technology-related law, have become members of the firm. Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy (New York): Two of the firm’s New York-based attorneys, Alvin K. Leong (of the global transportation finance group) and David J. Wolfson (of the global corporate department), have achieved partner status. Leong focuses on the financing of transactions, particularly in the airline industry, and Wolfson has a particular expertise in cross-border mergers and acquisitions. Kaye Scholer (New York): Leora Ben-Ami, Thomas F. Fleming and Patricia A. Carson have joined the firm’s patent litigation group as partners in the New York office. Each made the move from Hunton & Williams. Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy (Atlanta): Cynthia E. Berry, a health care law and policy attorney, has joined the firm as a Washington-based partner. She is a veteran lobbyist on numerous biotech, pharmaceutical, medical records privacy and managed care issues, as well as Medicare and Medicaid policy matters. New Counsel Calfee, Halter & Griswold (Cleveland): Bryan Schwartz has joined the intellectual property litigation group in Cleveland as of counsel. He served previously in the Tokyo and Washington offices of San Francisco-based Morrison & Foerster. Parker, McCay & Criscuolo (Marlton, N.J.): Brian M. Guest has joined the firm as counsel. His practice will concentrate on real estate, land use, government and redevelopment issues for private and public clients. Shearman & Sterling (New York): Christine Chung joins the home office as counsel, having finished a 12-year stint in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Her service there included a two-year term as chief of appeals and she also acted as liaison to the solicitor general’s office. Elected Richard F. Barry has been elected president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, an organization of 1,600 divorce and family law attorneys. Barry of San Rafael, Calif., has more than 35 years of matrimonial law experience. Barbara Ellen Handschu has been elected president-elect and will assume the presidency in the fall of 2004. Handschu also serves as a columnist on family law issues for The National Law Journal. Hope Eastman has been chosen to serve as chairwoman of the board of directors of the American Employment Law Council. Currently the director of the employment law practice group at Paley Rothman of Bethesda, Md., Eastman is a 30-year legal veteran with a practice focusing on helping employers develop policies that accord with government regulations. John M. Kamins, a partner with Detroit’s Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, has been elected chairman of the board of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a charitable health organization based in White Plains, N.Y., dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services.
