Laterals Bracewell & Patterson (Houston): The corporate and securities practice group based in Washington has added Gari Lister as a partner. Lister, formerly with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, concentrates on antitrust counseling and litigation. Holland & Knight: Daniel W.L. Fessler and James A. Boothe have joined the firm’s San Francisco-based energy practice, having made the jump from LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae. Fessler is a former president of the California Public Utilities Commission. Boothe specializes in public utility regulation, energy economics and industrial organization. King & Spalding (Atlanta): Eleanor Hill, former inspector general for the U.S. Department of Defense, has returned as a partner in the firm’s Washington office. She recently served as staff director of the Joint Congressional Inquiry Related to September 11. Her practice will focus on white-collar criminal matters. Kirkpatrick & Lockhart: The firm’s Miami office has established a bankruptcy and maritime law practice with the addition of partners Beatrice Butchko and Jeffrey T. Kucera. The new arrivals, along with associate William Simonitsch, come from Miami’s Ferrell Schultz Carter Zumpano & Fertel. Loeb & Loeb: The intellectual property practice has been bolstered by the addition of a lateral group from Pattishall, McAuliffe, Newbury, Hilliard & Geraldson. The newcomers, based in Chicago, are partners Edward G. Wierzbicki, Daniel D. Frohling, Mary E. Innis and Douglas N. Masters. Millbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy (New York): The firm’s home office has added intellectual property partners Errol B. Taylor and Fredrick M. Zullow. Taylor’s practice encompasses patent infringement, litigation and counseling on transactions and licenses. Zullow concentrates on complex litigation, with a special emphasis on the damages phase. Nixon Peabody: Raymond Van Dyke, formerly of Dorsey & Whitney, is a new partner in the firm’s Washington-based technology and intellectual property group. He represents and counsels companies in computer, life sciences and cross-disciplinary technological areas. Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal: Former Patton Boggs partner Singleton McAllister has joined as a partner in the firm’s Washington location. She will assume leadership duties with the corporate diversity counseling practice and also work with the public law and policy and corporate groups. New counsel Carlton Fields: James D. Silver has signed on as of counsel in the bankruptcy and creditors’ rights practice group, resident in the Miami office. He represents secured lenders and creditors in business bankruptcy cases. Hinshaw & Culbertson (Chicago): William Shank, previously a partner with Chicago’s Williams Montgomery & John and former general counsel of Walgreen Co. and Chemetron Corp., has joined as of counsel. His practice concentrates on corporate governance, probate and trust, insurance defense and commercial litigation. Firm management Carr, McClellan, Ingersoll, Thompson & Horn (Burlingame, Calif.): Charlotte K. Ito has come aboard as a director, bringing with her more than 20 years of experience in estate and tax planning. Her practice focuses on the development of wealth management and transfer strategies for high-net-worth individuals and families. Reed Smith: Gregory B. Jordan has been re-elected to serve a three-year term as managing partner of the firm. Jordan’s senior management team includes Michael Pollack, Eugene Tillman and Gary Sokulski. Tomlinson Zisko (Palo Alto, Calif.): Founding partner Timothy Tomlinson has been selected to serve as the firm’s first-ever chairman. The chairmanship serves to complement the duties of managing partner James Janz. Tomlinson is a member of the corporate finance practice group. Named Richard N. Bien, business litigation attorney from Kansas City, Mo.-based Lathrop & Gage, has been named chair of the judicial division of the American Bar Association, becoming only the second lawyer ever to hold the position. The division’s leaders are usually judges. Bryan Bockhop of Atlanta’s Arnall Golden Gregory has been appointed co-chairman of the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s nanotechnology subcommittee. He will work with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to ensure consistent treatment for nanotechnology. New office Dewey Ballantine (New York): The firm is launching an Italian practice with offices in Milan and Rome. The new practice will be staffed by approximately 20 attorneys, including partners Bruno Gattai, Stefano Speroni and Ugo Giordano, who will be accompanied by Nicola Brunetti, Giovanbattista Santangelo and Stefano Catenacci.
