BRIGHT IDEA Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner has added well-known intellectual property specialist Ronald Myrick as a partner in its Cambridge, Mass., office. Myrick is president of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and immediate past president of the Intellectual Property Owners Association. He has also served as chief intellectual property counsel for the General Electric Co. At Finnegan, Myrick will focus his practice on areas including IP asset management, strategy setting with senior management, and litigation management. — Jenna Greene HAPPY BIRTHDAY McDermott, Will & Emery celebrated the 25th birthday of its D.C. office on Sept. 25 at the Ritz-Carlton. The firm, now headquartered in Boston but founded in Chicago, opened the Washington office with three lawyers in 1978, its second satellite office (an estate planning office had opened in Miami earlier). The firm realized “if you wanted to have a national office, you needed to have a presence in Washington, D.C.,” says D.C. managing partner Timothy Waters. Now the D.C. office has more than 200 lawyers. The firmwide head count tops 1,000. The party featured representative cuisine from many of the firm’s 14 global offices, including deep-dish pizza from Chicago, risotto from Italy, and New England clam chowder from Boston. — Marie Beaudette GET OUT THE CRAYONS Pillsbury Winthrop is hosting a holiday card contest to raise money for charity. Firm attorneys and staff — and any offspring, relatives, neighbors, or clients — have been asked to create designs for this year’s holiday card. The firm will choose up to four winners that incorporate the theme “Teams That Work,” focusing on “teaming, working together, and peace on earth.” The firm will donate $2,500 to charities of the winners’ choice. — J.G. STILL THE BOSS Reed Smith partners have re-elected Gregory Jordan as managing partner. The 44-year-old Pittsburgh-based partner has headed the 1,000-lawyer firm since 2001 and will serve a three-year term. — J.G.
