Santa Clara Superior Court Judge William Danser was booked Monday on conspiracy charges following a grand jury investigation into whether he improperly handed out judicial favors. Danser surrendered to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies Monday in a deal arranged by his lawyer, Kenneth Robinson, a San Jose defense specialist. Danser was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 20 at which time the judge will enter a plea of not guilty, Robinson said. The judge is accused of trying to fix traffic tickets for his son and arranging to have a drunken-driving case transferred to his courtroom so he could mete out a lighter sentence. “I don’t think he will be convicted of anything,” Robinson said. Danser was placed on administrative leave with pay from his job as a judge after the indictment was handed up, Robinson said. He faces one felony charge of conspiracy to obstruct justice and several related misdemeanor counts. The grand jury was convened in September. In February, Danser said he had reported himself to the Commission on Judicial Performance after attempting to order the dismissal of a pair of parking tickets on the family car. The CJP is also conducting an investigation.
