Gorelick Former Clintonista Jamie Gorelick joins Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering this month, but she’ll be a part-timer for the first year. Gorelick will spend two days a week working as a member of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks, which is investigating the 9/11 bombings of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. A former deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration, she most recently served as the vice-chair and top legal officer of residential mortgage giant Fannie Mae. In order to avoid any possible conflicts between her role on the 9/11 panel and the interests of Wilmer, Cutler’s clients (which include UAL Corporation, the parent of United Airlines), Gorelick’s first-year compensation will be a fixed amount set in advance rather than a draw determined by the firm’s financial performance. “This way, I’ll have no financial stake in anything that the commission does,” she says, adding that her salary will be three-fifths of what she would make if she were to work full-time. Gorelick and firm leaders declined to specify the amount of her pay.
