CIVIL RIGHTS a man whose mobile home was removed from a Royal Oak, Mich., auto show because photos covering it were deemed offensive by the police, settled his suit against the city for $44,707 on April 30. In 2001, Ronald Brock attended the Woodward Dream Cruise, an annual auto show that draws more than a million people. He arrived in an RV festooned with graphic photos of aborted fetuses and Holocaust victims. While there, members of the Royal Oak police confiscated the vehicle as evidence for a possible charge of possession of “obscene literature.” The city argued that it feared the vehicle would incite a violent response. The parties settled after Brock obtained an injunction stopping the police from barring his appearance at the next year’s show. Brock v. City of Royal Oak, No. 02-40221 (E.D. Mich.). PLAINTIFF’S ATTORNEYS: Edward L. White III and Robert J. Muise, Thomas More Law Center, Ann Arbor, Mich. DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Christopher J. Johnson, Johnson, Rosati & LaBarge, Farmington Hills, Mich.
