KRUPIN O’BRIEN Paul Padda has joined D.C.’s Krupin O’Brien as an associate focusing on commercial litigation, employment and labor law issues, and business immigration matters. Before joining Krupin O’Brien, Padda was an attorney-adviser in the Office of Chief Counsel of the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration. Padda, 36, is a graduate of the University of Illinois School of Law. SQUIRE, SANDERS & DEMPSEY Amy Brown has been elected partner at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey. Brown, who works out of the firm’s D.C. office, had been an associate prior to her election. She focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and has extensive experience in financial services litigation, commercial arbitration, and class actions. Brown, 34, is a graduate of Duke University School of Law. SULLIVAN & WORCESTER Boston’s Sullivan & Worcester has made a number of lawyer and lobbying hires in its D.C.-based energy practice. Douglas MacKinnon, 47, joins as director of federal affairs and communications, from Piper Rudnick. Other nonlawyer lobbyists joining Sullivan & Worcester are senior adviser Edward Gabriel, 53, who was ambassador to Morocco between 1997 and 2001; senior adviser Fatima Zohra-Kurtz, 32, who served as political counselor at the U.S. embassy in Morocco; senior adviser Robert Hanfling, 65, a management consultant and former government official; and legislative specialist Courtney Clabaugh, 32, former appropriations and projects specialist to Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.). New lawyers in the energy area are: Stephen Huntoon, 46, joins the firm as of counsel. Most recently regulatory counsel at Dynegy Inc., Huntoon graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. Mary Benge, 47, joins as of counsel. Benge, who earned her J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law, was most recently legal adviser to Linda Breathitt, a former commissioner of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Sandra Barbulescu, 31, joins as an associate. Barbulescu graduated from Cornell Law School and worked previously at Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky. Meredith May and Derek Anderson join the firm as new associates. Both May, 29, and Anderson, 30, are newly minted graduates of Georgetown University Law Center.
