MARITIME a 40-year-old commercial fisherman whose lower right leg was crushed and had to be amputated after it was caught between a 1,100-ton tuna boat and a 30-ton skiff, settled his claim against the owner of the tuna boat for $2.2 million on April 16. The fisherman was attempting to board the tuna boat, the F/V Koorale, by jumping from the smaller skiff in rolling seas, a method of boarding set up by the captain of the tuna boat, which, the plaintiff claimed, was unsafe. The boat and its owner, M & F Fishing Inc., contended that the fisherman mistimed his jump. DeBrum v. M & F Fishing Inc., No. 0108403 DDP (SHx) (C.D. Calif.). PLAINTIFF’S ATTORNEYS: William L.
