Robert Boehm’s career is on cruise control: He just became the new senior vice president and general counsel at Steiner Leisure Limited, a company that operates 110 spas on 23 cruise lines, including Carnival Cruise Line and Princess Cruises. Most recently a partner at Akerman, Senterfitt & Eidson in Miami, Boehm says it was a hard decision for him to leave the firm. But this leap was not drastic, because he’d been serving as Steiner’s outside counsel. “This is a management team that seeks advice on legal and other issues and they follow it,” he says. Boehm will be based in the Coral Gables, Florida, office of the Nassau, Bahamas-based company. The company also operates more than 50 resort and day spas and has a line of pampering products and a handful of massage and beauty-training schools. The sole in-house lawyer, Boehm will function as a gatekeeper for everything from mergers and acquisitions to securities and compliance issues. He expects to use a bevy of outside counsel for litigation. For most of his career, Boehm focused on corporate securities. Before he joined Akerman, he was a partner at New York-based Kelley Drye & Warren’s Washington, D.C., office. After law school at Rutgers University, he worked for the SEC.
