Two San Francisco of counsel and one Palo Alto-based associate are among the seven newly promoted partners at Morrison & Foerster, the firm announced Thursday. The new class is half the size of the 14-member class promoted in January 2002. In San Francisco, the new partners are litigator Lawrence Katzin and Michael Ward, a patent lawyer. Katzin specializes in complex civil and securities litigation and graduated from the University of Chicago in 1989. Ward, who holds a doctorate in plant physiology, graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1996. In the Palo Alto office, Eric Tate is the newest partner. Tate, an employment lawyer, graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1995. Also promoted to partner were associate Steven Haines in Tokyo, of counsel Oliver Ireland in Washington, D.C., Neil Pomerantz in Denver, and Russell Weiss, an of counsel who works in the Los Angeles and Century City offices. The promotions took effect Jan. 1.
