In a novel squeeze on lawyers, the state Department of the Treasury says it sent warning notices to 11,000 attorneys around the country who might owe taxes on income from temporary appearances in New Jersey courts.

If they don’t pay by today � the official end of an amnesty program � lawyers with tax liability will be subject to a 5 percent penalty plus interest, the notices say.
