Several of the governors expressed serious doubts about the idea during a Board of Governors meeting on Friday, telling proponents that they fear fewer hours could hurt the quality of a bar exam commonly touted as the toughest in the nation.

“It sounds like we’re dumbing the exam down,” Long Beach Governor Matthew Cavanaugh said. “This might be a case where it might not be broke and doesn’t need fixing.”
