After the attorney’s petition to move the case from state to federal court, U.S. District Judge William Alsup said during a hearing Friday he doubted a federal issue was involved, but ordered further briefing.

The court switcheroo is the latest twist in the fight between the San Francisco Elections Commission and Civil Service Commission over which has jurisdiction over Haygood, who was fired in April by the Elections Commission. The case rolled into court Wednesday when the Elections Commission filed a lawsuit in superior court in am effort to block her reinstatement.
