G ov. Gray Davis named a quartet of civil litigators to the state’s benches Wednesday, including two with the kind of complex civil litigation backgrounds seen by some as being in short supply.

In San Mateo, Davis tapped Marie Weiner, a partner at Burlingame’s 19-lawyer Cotchett, Pitre, Simon & McCarthy and a member of the State Bar Board of Governors. The other three judges were appointed to the Los Angeles bench.

Weiner, 43, is a Hastings College of the Law graduate and a specialist in plaintiff class actions, investor fraud and intellectual property disputes. She was formerly an associate with San Diego’s Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach.
