It’s that time of year again when InsideCounsel starts gearing up for our annual SuperConference, which will be held in Chicago from May 6-8. And this one will be extra special—because it’s lucky No. 13!

As in years past, SuperConference’s lineup of keynote speakers and breakout sessions is stellar. The conference is specifically designed with legal department leaders in mind. Our goal is to provide senior-level legal professionals with insights, ideas and solutions to help them meet their growing responsibilities and evolving needs. And what really makes SuperConference stand out is that it is developed by in-house counsel, for in-house counsel—tapping into those particular, and often esoteric, problems that arise within legal departments.

Among our diverse lineup of keynotes this year are Jeffrey Carr, general counsel of FMC Technologies Inc.; J. Weili Cheng, deputy general counsel of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co.; Don Liu, general counsel of Xerox Corp.; Robert T. King, president of United Auto Workers; and David Kappos, former director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Kappos’ speech may be of particular note, as he was instrumental in working toward improving the country’s previously outdated intellectual property system. Now a partner at Cravath, Swaine & Moore, Kappos will continue to work on some of the most complex intellectual property issues affecting businesses.

Again this year, breakout sessions are divided into several convenient categories, including ethics and compliance, litigation management, law department management and topical issues—all full of useful and relevant information.

In years past, InsideCounsel has coupled SuperConference with our Transformative Leadership Awards (TLA) event, where we honor those who have made efforts to empower women in the legal profession. In 2013, we’ve moved the first event, TLA East, to New York on April 16. Tables are still available, so visit for more information.

Our second TLA event, TLA West, will be held in October in San Francisco. Nominations for those awards are still open, so please visit to nominate an outstanding corporate legal professional who has worked to advance women in law.

Whether you can join us for one event or all of them, you are sure to find them valuable to your job as a legal department leader and to the legal profession as a whole.
