A 61-year-old ex-attorney pleaded guilty Wednesday in Hartford federal court to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud stemming from a complex scheme to scam insurance companies into issuing policies on the lives of the elderly to financially benefit himself and others.

Former Fairfield attorney David Quatrella, who worked for Quatrella & Rizio until it was disbanded in 2015, faces a maximum of five years in prison when he is sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alvin W. Thompson on April 28. He also agreed to forfeit $272,000. The law firm Quatrella used to work for is now know as Q & R Associates.
