Sex- and labor-trafficking of human beings is not a new crime. Children and adults from all kinds of backgrounds and stations in life have been bought, sold and exploited for the financial gain of another for centuries.

However, in the past few decades we have become more aware of the pervasiveness and nature of this crime. Our law enforcement is better identifying instances of trafficking, the perpetrators and their prey. In other words, as this crime is coming to greater light, so are the countless victims.
